Shelley Goldbeck, Cowboy Poet, Singer/Songwriter
“Come to Cowboy Poetry!”
Every year for decades, Shelley’s friend invited her to Cowboy Poetry. “Someday,” she’d say. When that day came in 2015, she was blown away! She loved the stories and the characters telling them.
She quickly began writing her own poetry, based on her growing up on a horse ranch/mixed farm in Central Alberta. Then she joined the Alberta Cowboy Poetry Association and became the editor of their newsletter, the Barbwire Dispatch.
In a few short years, Shelley has performed in Cowboy gatherings throughout the west. In 2016, she placed in the Kamloops Cowboy Gathering Poetry Contest. In 2017 she was invited back to Kamloops to perform. She was the stage manager and evening emcee for the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Willow Creek Cowboy Gatherings in Stavely, Alberta.
In November 2017 Shelley released her first CD of Cowboy Poetry and music, Buffalo Beans and Bluebells, which was her gift to her parents for their 60th wedding anniversary. The CD consists of six of Shelley’s original poems, including crowd favourite, Cowboy Cathedral, two parodies, and three original songs (co-written with Don Kletke), including the title track, which is based on her grandparents’ experiences as homesteaders in Alberta. Available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and many other music sellers.
In 2019, Shelley began playing the mandolin. She decided she needed to share her gifts so she entertains at seniors communities throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Shelley loves to emcee events and often writes custom poetry for the occasion. She is available for weddings, funerals, birthdays, anniversaries, and corporate events as a poet, speaker, or singer.
